New educational centre for the Geldmuseum.
« Back to news overview
How do people spend their money and what does money do to people? Answers to questions like these come from the Geldmuseum ("Money Museum") in Utrecht. The Geldmuseum is located in the building in which all Dutch coins are made since 1911.
The Geldmuseum opened on 24 May 2007 and attracted almost 35,000 visitors in that year. In 2008, the first full year of operation, the visitor numbers are expected to rise above 60,000.
Students, from primary school to secondary education, make up for many of the visitors. Especially for this group, the Geldmuseum has set up an educational centre. In 2008 the Geldmuseum expects to welcome around 20,000 students.
For this outstanding achievement, Studio Linksboven, a notable and creative design office in Zaltbommel (www.studiolinksboven.com), was asked to design the lay-out of the educational centre. For a conspicuous design, Studio Linksboven has joined forces with ajee-èm. Together, Studio Linksboven and ajee-èm are demonstrating that conspicuous design is their every day's job.
The educational centre is a multifunctional area. Ajee-èm develops an education theatre. The theatre can hold 50 people for a variety of activities: films are screened, presentations and lectures are given, and games are played. Individually, or with a whole class of schoolchildren. As we mentioned earlier, from primary school to secondary education. Playing with money to discover how people spend their money and what money can do to people!
From October, the public will be able to admire the conspicuous lay-out of the educational centre in the Geldmuseum. For more information on the Geldmuseum, go to www.geldmuseum.nl.
